Is Pregnancy Massage safe?
Lot of expecting moms wonder, is massage safe during pregnancy?
With my twin pregnancy, I used to get stressful at times, lower back pain after 5th Month, lower energy level & all related symptoms While talking to a friend, who just delivered a baby, suggested, why don’t you try for a massage therapy? Not every day may be but twice or thrice in a week? I was little scared about what impact it may have on my babies, is it safe, how about pre labor or early delivery because of that & all those questions started flowing through.I decided to take help from my ObGyn and he suggested any massage that is stretching uterus and uncomfortable position for myself and baby should be avoided. Otherwise massage is a great way for relaxation!
Massage during pregnancy
I was more than happy to go for it now. Massage during pregnancy is helpful & relaxing for body and mind. I enjoyed it through out my pregnancy after first trimester. I was clear that massage is not only helpful for relaxing the body but it helps keeping the stress level & anxiety under control as well. Other benefits of massage during pregnancy are reduced back pain, head ache, joint pains, improved blood circulation and getting more Oxygenation of muscles.Although for most ladies out there massage is a good way to pamper yourself, you need to be careful that you get it done by proper prenatal massage expert only. Also it is to be avoided for first 12 weeks of pregnancy. As risk of miscarriage is very high during this period. Massage during pregnancy is safe with required precaution. You should also ask your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:
- High Blood Pressure
- previous pre term labor
- Vaginal Bleeding
- frequent severe headaches
- High risk pregnancy
- Diabetes, thyroid or Kidney problems
- Any other medical problem
Gentle light strokes are important for pre natal massage.

Which oils are safe to be used for massage during pregnancy?Use organic, natural & neutral scented oils as too much perfumed oil may make you sick & the toxins may be harmful for baby. Natural Lavender, coconut & Almond oil would be the best choice. Try the oil for first day & see the effect. Also do not use same oil for many days as research is limited for effect on oils during pregnancy.
If you are not nauseated & picky with different smells, aroma therapy is also a good option for relaxation and reducing stress levels. Again you should start using Aroma therapy from 2nd Trimester onwards .
How Much Oil to use?
If you are using essential oils, try not to use synthetic or highly fragrance products. Natural and organic oils are the best ones. Try to dilute the essential oil before applying the same on skin directly. It also helps when your sense of smell is acute during pregnancy.
